Food System Economic Partnership

Education & Outreach for Change

Purpose Statement

FSEP will foster learning through education among all key stakeholders regarding the impact of our current food system and help identify potential alternatives for change. FSEP will educate the Leadership Team, the general public, and various stakeholders within the local food shed about the opportunities in reestablishing a local food system and about how FSEP can help overcome barriers. We perceive three types of education that need to happen and different yet intersecting ways for that to happen.  Our leading question was: Whom are we trying to educate?  Our Answer: The public, the current food system handlers, and ourselves.  The next question was: How will we do this?  Some educational needs will require printed materials and presentation materials.  Other educational opportunities will be ongoing or annual.  Most education will happen within the context of a planned event (meetings, conferences, workshops).

Objectives

  • Educate FSEP leadership and membership about issues and opportunities so that they may be ambassadors for the organization to their respective communities.
  • Educate consumers and the general public about issues in the current food system, how their choices affect the quality of the food system, and how to improve access to local foods.
  • Educate political decision makers about the food system and recommend agri-food policy solutions that may enhance community and economic development
